Ener Chiu | Special Projects Director
Ener Chiu believes that vibrant, safe, and opportunity oriented communities help to create healthy, socially-connected, and actualized individuals.
Since 2005, he has developed more than 400 affordable homes in Oakland, San Pablo, and Richmond, and supervised development teams that included large scale public-private joint venture partnerships, including the redevelopment of the Lake Merritt BART station as the Oakland Chinatown BART Station. Ener also has nonprofit executive experience in leading and resourcing programs to provide resident services, economic and financial empowerment, and neighborhood coalition building. In each of these professional capacities, he worked to ensure that private and public investment in the form of infrastructure and land use development projects more intentionally and directly benefited long time and current community residents, while making space for newcomers who are moving in.
Ener has been a Steering Committee Member of the Oakland Chinatown Coalition; a Founding Member of Old Oakland Neighbors; a Founding Board Member of the Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council; a Founding Family Member of Yu Ming Mandarin Immersion Public Charter School; a Co-Founder of Friends of Lincoln Square Park; past President of the Pacific Renaissance Plaza Home Owners Association; past President of the Board of East Bay Housing Organizations, and served on the Investor Oversight Committee of the New Parkway Theater. Ener holds a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley, loves to coach youth soccer, and lives in Oakland with his wife, two daughters, and pit terrier.
